The best URL shortener extensions for Chrome

Bitly is the pick if you want the best-known shortener with a Chrome extension, though its Core plan is sold yearly only and its free links show an ad page. Short.io and Dub are the picks for a branded domain of your own: both include custom domains on their free plans, Short.io cheaper to start and Dub built for developers. Pagewing suits people who want short links, click stats and QR codes with no ad page, billed monthly, in a subscription that also covers a screen recorder and PDF editor. TinyURL suits people who need many links cheaply, and Rebrandly marketing teams with many branded links.

Checked against each app's own pages in October 2026. We compared each shortener's Chrome extension, link limits, custom aliases and domains, click stats, QR codes, what happens to free links, and the price, as read on its own pricing page in October 2026. Pagewing is ours, so its row has the same cons as the others.

Questions

Something else? Write to us from the Support link below.

Is Bitly free?

Partly. Bitly's free plan allows 5 links and 2 QR codes a month, shows an ad page before free links redirect and has no analytics. Its Core plan is $10 a month but sold yearly only, at $120 a year.

Which URL shortener lets me use my own domain for free?

Short.io, Dub, Rebrandly and TinyURL all include at least one custom domain on their free plans; Bitly adds branded domains on its Growth plan. Pagewing has no branded domains: its links use the Pagewing domain.

Can I change where a short link goes after I share it?

Yes, but the caps differ. Pagewing lets you change a destination any time with no cap. Bitly Core allows 5 redirects a month and Rebrandly Essentials 10 destination edits a month; Short.io, Dub and TinyURL's paid plans let you edit destinations.

Do free short links show ads?

Bitly's free links show an ad page before the redirect. Pagewing never shows an ad page, on any plan, not even on printed QR codes. The others listed here don't advertise ad pages on their pricing pages.

What happens to my links if I cancel?

It depends on the service. Pagewing's short links keep redirecting after you move to the free plan. Check each vendor's terms before you rely on links in print; a branded domain you own is the safest way to keep links portable.

Is Pagewing free?

Yes. Every tool works on the free plan, with a few limits. Premium removes the limits and adds features like share links, PDF signatures and cloud storage, for every tool at once. Pro adds Office conversions, bookmark cleanups and AI summaries and branding for recordings on top. You only add a card if you decide to upgrade.
