The best screen recorder extensions for Chrome

For quick recordings shared by link, Loom and Pagewing are the two to compare: Loom if your team already works in Loom or you want desktop and phone apps, Pagewing if you also pay for a PDF editor, a screenshot tool or short links and would rather have one subscription, with a 15-minute free cap instead of Loom's 5. Tella is the pick when the finished video matters more than speed: it edits clips, backgrounds and zooms. Scribe suits anyone whose viewers would rather read steps than watch. Screencastify is the classroom standard, and Awesome Screenshot pairs recording with screenshots for a low price.

Checked against each app's own pages in October 2026. We compared the recorders people install in Chrome on what they record, what the free plan allows, how the result is shared and edited, and what the first paid plan costs billed monthly, reading each maker's own pricing page in October 2026.

Which screen recorder for Chrome is free?

Loom, Pagewing, Scribe, Screencastify and Awesome Screenshot all have free plans; Tella has only a trial. The free plans differ in length caps: Loom stops at 5 minutes a video, Pagewing at 15, Screencastify at 30 with a watermark, and Awesome Screenshot's local recordings at 5. Loom and Screencastify also cap how many videos you keep (25 and 10); Pagewing doesn't.

Can I record my screen in Chrome without uploading anything?

Yes. Pagewing's Save to computer option writes the MP4 or WebM straight to your Downloads folder and nothing leaves your computer, and Awesome Screenshot can save recordings locally too. Loom, Tella, Scribe and Screencastify store recordings in their clouds, with downloads on some plans.

Which one records with my camera and microphone?

All but Scribe record your microphone, and Loom, Pagewing, Tella, Screencastify and Awesome Screenshot can show your camera as a bubble over the screen or record it on its own. Scribe records clicks for a guide, not a camera.

Which recorder gives me a share link the fastest?

Loom and Pagewing both upload while you record, so the link is ready when you press stop. Pagewing copies it to your clipboard and lets you add a password or an expiry date; Loom's links come with its workspace features.

Do these recorders transcribe and summarize videos?

Loom includes transcripts and AI summaries on its Business + AI plan, Pagewing includes captions and a transcript on every shared recording and AI summaries, chapters and action items on Pro, and Tella edits from the transcript. Screencastify and Awesome Screenshot don't list transcripts on their pricing pages.

Is Pagewing free?

Yes. Every tool works on the free plan, with a few limits. Premium removes the limits and adds features like share links, PDF signatures and cloud storage, for every tool at once. Pro adds Office conversions, bookmark cleanups and AI summaries and branding for recordings on top. You only add a card if you decide to upgrade.
