The best page marker and screen annotation tools for Chrome

Pick Epic Pen if you present from a Windows PC and need to ink over slides, a video call or any app, not only the browser. Pick ZoomIt if you want that free, with zoom, on Windows or Mac. Pick Pagewing if what you mark up is on the web: it draws over any page in Chrome with pen, highlighter, shapes, text and a laser pointer, keeps your marks for next time, and turns the page into a screenshot or a PDF, in one subscription with a PDF editor and short links. Page Marker and Web Paint Tool are free, simpler extensions for a quick drawing you screenshot.

Checked against each app's own pages in October 2026. We compared each tool on its own feature and pricing pages in October 2026, and Pagewing on what ships today: where it draws, what happens when you scroll or come back, and what you can save. Two of the five are desktop apps rather than extensions, and we say so.

Questions

Something else? Write to us from the Support link below.

Is Epic Pen a Chrome extension?

No. Epic Pen is a desktop app for Windows 10 and 11 that draws over the whole screen. To draw on a web page inside Chrome on any operating system, use an extension such as Pagewing's page marker, Page Marker or Web Paint Tool.

Does Epic Pen work on a Mac?

No. Its maker says Epic Pen is only available for Windows. On a Mac, ZoomIt for Mac is free, and Pagewing's page marker works in Chrome.

Which tool keeps my drawings when I come back to a page?

Pagewing keeps each page's marks on your device and draws them again when the page loads, with a list of marked pages you can search and export. Epic Pen and ZoomIt clear their ink when you leave drawing mode, and Page Marker saves a picture instead. Web Paint Tool's listing says its annotations survive a reload.

Can I draw over a video call or slides?

Epic Pen and ZoomIt draw over anything on the screen, including a video call or a slide deck. Extensions draw inside the browser tab only, so with Pagewing you'd share the Chrome tab or window you're marking up.

Can I save a marked-up page as a PDF or an image?

Pagewing captures the visible area, the full page or an area with your marks into its screenshot editor, and saves the whole page as a PDF with the page's address and date on it. Epic Pen, ZoomIt, Page Marker and Web Paint Tool take a screenshot of what's on screen.

Is Pagewing free?

Yes. Every tool works on the free plan, with a few limits. Premium removes the limits and adds features like share links, PDF signatures and cloud storage, for every tool at once. Pro adds Office conversions, bookmark cleanups and AI summaries and branding for recordings on top. You only add a card if you decide to upgrade.
